Black Food Sovereignty in Toronto empowers Black communities to take control of their food systems and address longstanding inequities in accessing healthy, culturally relevant food. With 46.3% of Black Canadian youth living in food-insecure households, the need for community-driven, sustainable solutions has never been more pressing.
Toronto is leading the way as Canada’s only city with a Black Food Sovereignty Action Plan, a groundbreaking initiative focused on supporting Black farmers, food entrepreneurs, and businesses. By coming together as a community to advance these efforts, we are not only working to reduce food insecurity, but also building a foundation for long-term self-sufficiency and resilience within our communities.
